The workshops were co-sponsored by NeFSMA and NDNR.

The workshops were part of the quarterly NeFSMA meeting held in conjunction with the first annual NDNR Floodplain Managers Meeting. Numerous technical sessions or workshops were offered and participation was outstanding.

Sharing information on LB1226 Stormwater Allocations for NPDES Phase I and II communities. Click here for a copy of the presentations. Phase I and II Nebraska NPDES communities The use of LB1226 funds by NPDES Phase I and II municipalities to improve stormwater quality and educate the public on stormwater processes. Several municipalities will present information on how the funds were and will be expended.

Dr. George Oamek, Honey Creek Resources and Mr. Elbert Traylor, NDEQ Implementing stormwater programs requires funding. Dr. Oamek made a presentation of various funding opportunities funds from bonds to stormwater utilities. Mr. Elbert spoke about funding opportunities from federal and state agencies. He also showed projects that were funded from a variety of sources.

Hazard Mitigation Plans Steve McMaster, NDEQ Mitigation plans are required for communities to receive federal assistance following a presidential declared disaster. To assist in reaching the goal of having communities better prepared for handling disasters; the framework of developing plans based on natural resource districts was established.

City of Lincoln's Stormwater Program and NeFSMA Annual Meeting Rock Krzycki and Ben Higgins of Lincoln Watershed Management and Nate Hartman, Lancaster Health Department An overview of the city's stormwater program was presented. Topics covered include NPDES permit's six minimum measures, the second 5 years of compliance, watershed planning, and LID and stormwater projects.

New Floodplain Mapping in Nebraska Jim Williams, NDNR; Ben Higgins, City of Lincoln; and Paul Woodward, P-MRNRD NDNR has developed a process to delineate Approximate "A: floodplain zones." The City of Lincoln is updating several floodplains. P-MRNRD is updating over 50 miles of stream located within the West Papillion Creek watershed.

Low Impace Development Seminar Dr. Scott Struck, US EPA's Office of Research and Development's Urban Watershed management Branch This presentation offered an in-depth introduction to the economic benefits, ecological goals, planning techniques, design principles, analytical methodologies, implementation strategies and monitoring results of the innovative LID technology for urban stormwater management.

Donna Garden and Mary Schroer spoke on changes in EPA's approach to managing stormwater and LB1266 (stormwater grant funds for NDPES Phase I and II communities)

Chad Nabity provided information on new countywide Flood Insurance Rate Map production and issues that Hall County is experiencing with this process.

Lalit Jha provided information on the Grand Island Flood Control Project for Silver, Mores and Prairie Creeks.

CPNRD provided a presentation on the Wood River Diversion project followed by a tour of the diversion and the Grand Island Flood Control Project.

NPDES: A Roadmap for Nebraska's Phase II Communities   A specialized workshop aimed at the ten communities in Nebraska identified to meet NPDES Phase II Program requirements. The program specifically addressed the 6 Step NPDES Phase II Permit requirements.

NeFSMA Annual Meeting Paul Woodward, NeFSMA chair The first annual meeting of NeFSMA elected new officers and also provided a forum to discuss the future of the organization and look at training opportunities NeFSMA may be able to coordinate, or co-sponsor with others.
